First round of the 2023 MCL Season is behind us. We're starting New Year with new Mystery Coffee League records and another unique coffee.
Our first Roaster of the Month in 2023 was a family roastery based on Bratislava, Slovakia 🇸🇰 called Diamond's Coffee. We would like to thank Tomas and his team for their support in kicking-off the 2023 Mystery Coffee League season. Doing an extra bit of additional work during Christmas period and sourcing unique coffee during the dead green season is not an easy task. However, Diamond's definitely managed to deliver!

About the coffee and farm:
The farm is located in the city of Lambari in the Mantiqueira de Minas coffee region of Sul de Minas. Sitio Vargem Grande is a farm that has been producing amazingly complex coffees, investing in many different fermentation techniques and drying methods to explore the potential of their farm.
This particular lot went through a natural processing. In November 2022, this coffee was selected 4th best in Natural Category at Brazilian competition called NossoCafé
Yara 2022.
Tasting notes from the Coffeemind's Flavour Wheel are mandarin, nutmeg and caramel.
Record number of 80 club members decided to submit their Mystery Coffee guess in the first round of the season. The last best results was October 2022 round with Father's where we had a 73 submitted guesses. We are definitely off to a good start and early signs point towards an another new record in February with Mystery Coffee from Three Marks 🇪🇸.
Who was the best in this round? The winner of January 2023 is PaD with 21 points! PaD was the only one to guess origin, varietal, processing and altitude correct! Second place goes ex aequo to Sami and moo with 20 points (origin tie-breaker).
